Hard Hats & Protective Earmuffs

Hard Hats.

Of course we’ve all heard of hard hats they are what protect us from extreme damage of our skulls. The main purpose of the hard hat is head protection in the case where an individual is in an area where there is potential for injuries from falling objects. Apart from that, some hard hats are also designed to protect from electrical shock when one is working near exposed electrical conductors which may come into contact with the head.

Specialty types of hard hats include those Miners use with light attachments, reflective stripe for night work, face shields for welders and attachments for visors or earmuffs.

Hard HATS

Use of Hard Hats

Hard hats should be used when falling object hazards may result from activities with proximity to:

  • Persons or operations where accidental dropping or loss of material, tools, equipment or other articles could lead to a head injury;
  • A barricaded or posted demolition or construction area where head hazards exist;
  • Objects stored on shelves, platforms, etc. that may fall and cause head injury; or
  • Overhead exposed energized conductors nearby.

Hard Hat Wear Factors and Limitations

Hard hat headbands and chin and nape straps should be adjusted to keep the hat comfortably on the head. Liners or sweat bands can be added for warmth or cooling. The shell or other parts of the hat should be replaced when they become damaged. Clean hats by dipping in hot water with detergent, scrub the shell and rinse in clear hot water. Cleaning solvents may damage the shell.

Hearing Protection.

Hearing protectors are required to prevent noise induced hearing loss. Hearing protection devices reduce the noise energy reaching the ear therefore preventing damage of the ear. Earmuffs and earplugs are the most common types of hearing protectors.

Hearing Protection Use

PPE for hearing protection is required for employees who are exposed to noise levels equal to or greater than 85 decibels averaged over an eight-hour period.

Combination of Both!

There must have been a time when man found himself in a position of potential head damage, eye or face damage and ear damage. I bet he couldn’t stand a single bit of it all. So like wise, as with all mankind, he sought to do something about this and thus was the births of the Hard Hats mounted with Earmuffs or Visors.

Hard Hats with Earmuffs

264-47102---FR-on-helmetIt’s a pretty single safety device just a hard hat with earmuffs, nothing fancy. A two in one combination offering you both ear and head protection so no need to trouble yourself with the possibility of noise distraction and falling objects.

Most hard hats mounted with earmuffs come with an adapter that allows you to change earmuffs if you do not like the ones purchased with the hard hat. So it is safe to say that it is customizable.

Hard Hats with Visors

FH1On a more complex side is the hard hat with the Visor and Earmuffs.

Triple Protection!

As you can see for yourself this safety gear offers an extra line of protection with the Visor. So if you’re in a position where bugs literally fly around and you don’t want any of them in your face then this is your answer to that problem.

Just like it’s predecessor, it comes with an adapter which allows you to not only change the Earmuffs but the Visor as well. So you can pick from either a Mesh Visor like the one in the photo above or the clear plastic visor. Once again, need i say, Customizable!
